Types Of Fuses Used In Electrical Circuits

Fuse is an electrical device that is used to protect the circuit from overload and overcharge. During the over current or overload , the fuse , which has low resistance, melts and protects the main circuit , by disconnecting the power supply from the man source . The low resistance wire melts when high current passes through it.

Types of fuses –

DC and AC fuses – the difference between these two fuses is not much. The only difference is that AC fuses are used in the AC systems and DC fuses are used in the DC systems. In the DC system, when low resistance wire melts, an arc is created, which is difficult to extinguish because of constant electricity in direct current. To keep the arc minimum, the direct current fuse is bit longer than alternate current. This bigger size of the direct current Electrical BPLKits Manufacturer fuses increase the distance between electrodes, which reduce the size of the arc.

The alternate current fluctuates, so it is easy to curb the arc in the system. Therefore the size of alternate current is smaller than direct current.

One time use fuse –

One time fuse are the metallic wire fuse, which burns when current overflow through them. After the melting, the fuse is manually replaced. This type of fuses is cheap and used in most of the electrical and electronic systems. The one time fuse is categories on the following bases.

These bases are breaking capacity of the fuse, current carrying capacity of the fuse, packaging size and response characteristic, related voltage of fuse etc.

Cartridges fuses ---

These fuses are used in high voltage and current ratings system. They are used in motors, air conditioners, pumps, refrigerators etc. They use mostly occurs in industrial and commercial places.

Again the cartridge fuses can be divided into types. One is general purpose fuse and other is heavy duty cartridge fuses. General purpose fuse comes with no time delay and heavy duty has time delay.

Blade fuse type –this fuse is also called plug in fuse or spade fuse. They come in plastic body with two metal caps to fit the socket. These are used in automobiles for short circuit protection and wiring.

The main use of fuses is Drop Out Fuse Set Manufacturers to protect the circuit from  the main source of electricity in the real time  scenarios. The fuse protects users from extensive damage that may happen from overflowing currents.
