Different Types of Pin, Post, and Suspension Insulators that Can Be Used As Electrical/Overhead Insulators






Basically, three different types of insulators are used as electrical or overhead insulators in various industrial applications. The ideal of used as the transmission of electrical power and telecommunication purposes, the insulators that can be used as electrical or overhead insulators are pin insulators, suspension insulators and strain insulators.

Since the suspension insulators are hanged on suspension string, the mechanical stress associated with suspension insulators are very less as compared to pin or post insulators.

One of the most important disadvantages of suspension insulators is that the initial cost of setting up the suspension insulators is very high as compared to pin or post insulators.  More height is required for the purpose of setting up suspension insulators than a traditional pin or post insulators, for the purpose of maintaining the same ground clearance of current conductors.
